Blogging Reflection and Presentation Assignments

Blogging Reflection Assignments

For these lab assignments you will be creating and posting to a blog at various points in the semester. We will be contributing our blog posts to one class blog, found on the Blogger.com

The goal of your blog post will be to connect your experiences online with content from the class, readings, and labs. Specifically, when you create a post you should connect at least two concepts from class material to your own experience. You will choose a concept and then discuss some or all of the following:

-          how the course materials resonates with what you do or know
-          how the course materials influenced your thought or behavior
-          connect the concepts to current events through news articles or videos
-          how your experience might be different than what we have discussed.

The goal of this post is to demonstrate critical thinking, and to teach the reader something new about the course material. Thus, it is best not to simply summarize the lab discussion, or simply present your opinions on communication and technology. As in lab, the standards for discussion are to introduce new information (through a news article), demonstrate critical thinking, or apply a course concept to a new topic. In your post be sure to define the concept you are discussing, and provide enough detail so that someone who was not familiar with the concept could understand what it is. Posts should be 500-750 words.

Blogs due 5 times throughout the semester: 9/12, 10/3, 10/24, 11/14, 12/5. You will write an entry every three weeks, and your entry should always choose concepts that we covered during those three weeks. For example, your first blog entry will cover the content from the first three weeks of class. Blogs are always due Friday by 5pm.

Each blog entry is worth 40 possible points. You will be graded on: a) following assignment instructions, b) the inclusion and accuracy of your discussion of each class concept, c) a demonstration of your understanding of the concept, d) a relevant discussion of your experience/thoughts/ideas about each topic, and e) a well-written submission.

Blog Presentation Assignment

You will choose one of your blog posts to share with the class. You will not be reading your post, but rather presenting the concepts you chose and talking about how those related to your experience. Presentations should be about 4-5 minutes in length. To make sure that you have enough to talk about you will likely need to expand on what you wrote about. This should include a good discussion of the concepts you chose from class and examples from your experience.

Look over the lab and class schedule when choosing a day to present. You will enjoy your presentation more if you write (and talk) about a subject that you feel passionate about.

Your presentation is worth a possible 50 points. Your presentation will be graded on: a) professionalism, b) a good discussion of course concepts, c) the application of concepts to your life, and d) meeting assignment requirements.
